In urma declaratiilor presedintelui Comisiei pentru Afaceri Europene a Bundestagului, Gunther Krichbaum, referitoare la coruptia politicienilor din Romania, i-am transmis deputatului german urmatorul drept la replica:
To Mr Gunther Krichbaum, Chairman
Bundestag European Affaires Committee
Dear Mr Krichbaum,
I learned by reading Friday’s press that during your short visit in Romania you stated that in our country there are a lot of “Adrian Nastase”, meaning a lot of powerfull politicians with corruption charges and, furthermore, you mention my name in this context.
I won’t hold against you the fact that, as a member of the Bundestag, you came to Romania expressing opinions about a member of the Romanian Parliament without even knowing him. I won’t hold against you that you mention my name although you obviously don’t know a thing about my case or what are the charges brought against me. Because if you would have, you would perhaps have learned that I resigned from the Parliament in order to let the justice take its course and avoid using the parliamentary immunity as a shield against the law. You would have also learned that in Romania there is a widespread controversy over the “politic dossiers”, if done on politic command or not.
But I cannot ignore that you, as a connoisseur of Romania, are using my name to damage my country’s image. Especially since, as I’ve already told you, for this good reputation I resigned from the Parliament. I’m far from being perfect, mr. Krichbaum, but this doesn’t mean I have to take undeserved punches.
So, I’m sorry to find such a lack of fair-play from a Bundestag member, especially since my mother is a German citizen and my respect for your country has deep roots.
Hoping that you will take your time to make the due corrections in public, as the statement above mentioned I remain,
Sincerely yours
Miron Mitrea
Romanian Senator
